Britney Spears is back with a new CD, a new tour, and a new attitude. After shaving her head, being hospitalized, and fighting for custody of her children, Britney recovers and is ready to sing.
Debuting with her chart-topping song “Womanizer”, Britney continued to make her well-known comeback with her other two hits, “If U Seek Amy” and “Circus.” “Circus,” which illuminates Britney’s drive to be in the spotlight, is the theme of her ongoing tour.
All eyes on me in the center of the ring like a circus
When I break that whip, the whole world will stumble like a circus
Don’t just stand there looking at me, follow me, show me what you can do
Everybody go, we can make a dance floor like a circus
– Lyrics of the choir “Circus”.
Britney’s tour includes elaborate costumes, shows, props, and stunts. For most of her tour, Britney wears a circus ring leader uniform that is more daring than risky, and with masculine shoulder pads and a whip, she dominates the stage.
Alongside her on stage are a mass of different people in various intricate costumes, including clowns, animals, and showgirls, all with a sexual and modern twist. Their backup performers can be seen jumping through hoops, juggling, performing stunts and acrobatic stunts, and of course dancing with Britney.
All costumes and performers have a sadistic / masochistic sexual theme. At one point during her performance, Britney removes her dominating Ring Master costume, to reveal a daring three-piece corset and panties. She is then “thrown” into a cage with leather-clad men with muzzles. Around him are chained acrobats, tightrope-balancing women in scantily-clad clothing, and muscular, shirtless men. All in all, Britney’s show is wild.
Tickets for Britney’s concerts have been a hot topic since they went on sale in January, and all but a few are sold out. Those who still need tickets have a slim chance of getting them unless they can find a local vendor, or various radio stations are giving away Britney tickets in contests.
Fans have been eagerly awaiting Britney’s tour, some have even gone so far as to buy almost matching costumes to look like Britney’s Ring Master outfit. Others have dressed in corsets, thigh-high vinyl boots and top hats to follow the concert’s circus theme.
The official Britney Spears website lists a few ways to copy Britney’s Circus style, including where to find most of the pieces at local retail stores like Forever 21. The Yandy costume site features a Lion Tamer costume that looks a lot like the Britney’s Ring Master costume.
Britney’s tour runs from March 3, 2009 to June 17, 2009 with tickets available through Ticket Master. More information can be found on the Britney Spears tour site.
